The art of Tattooing is much more than just ordering a tattoo kit through a tattoo magazine, or website, or even your friends allowing you to start experimental tattoos on them. Tattooing is an ancient art form, with a set of rules that must be understood & completely followed if you want to be a successful tattoo artist. If you are really serious and determined to become a tattoo artist, what you first and foremostly need is to have patience. Learning the art of tattooing will require long time persistence & perseverance so, be prepared.
The first and the main important thing you must have is the raw talent. For someone who can’t draw or can’t color inside the lines, Tattooing is going to be a really tough task. This kind of candidate will be really difficult to teach. Learning how to become a tattoo artist isn't easy. And it isn't for everyone. If you don't have some raw artistic talent, then it probably isn't the job for you. But if you're artistic side is one of your strongest, then you just might have what it takes.
The next important aspect is to sharpen your raw talent and build it into a skill. On top of that, you need to practice, practice, & practice. This enables you to have an understanding of form and colour technology. Once you're a competent artist on paper, you'll need to build a portfolio. A portfolio is a case or binder containing examples of your art, to show your different skills.

An apprentice is someone who learns a skill from someone else already skilled in the job. Get started once you're with a master from whom you can truly learn and not just someone offering apprenticeships to make money.
